This was so interesting and funny…
I really wish I would have had my camera outside with me to get some pics of this!
We have an enormous white German Shepherd dog named Hilo. He is named after our favorite island in Hawaii.
Well, he is shedding big-time. He always sheds, but I guess since it's spring, it's even more excessive.
So, my boyfriend gave him a shower and then took him outside to brush him and get a TON of fur off of him.
There was a huge pile in the grass and all of a sudden all these birds kept swooping down to the pile. They were grabbing tufts of it and flying off.
I am no bird expert, but I am assuming they are not eating it, right? My only guess is that they are bringing it back to their nests for bedding.
Mike was shocked when he came back out to the yard to see that the fur pile was almost completely gone!
I guess it just shows that in nature there is no waste. Animals find a use for everything.
Geez, with the amount of fur to go around, we could supply all the birds in this town with whatever the heck they are doing with it.
I am going to try and get some pics next time of these tiny birds with beaks full of fur next time. Quite comical!
Any bird watchers out there know what they could be doing with the fur?
