Soups are great for this time of year! It is getting closer to winter, and in most places (at least where I live), it is getting colder. In my house, when it gets colder, we tend to go for more comfort foods – things like hot chocolate, chili, soups – but then sometimes, my soup variety gets boring. What a perfect time to practice my soup making! And not just soup from a can – but 300 Sensational Soups, THAT is how I will practice my soup making. I was given the chance to review 300 Sensational Soups by Carla Snyder and Meredith Deeds recently, and it has been fun to work my way through the book finding something fun to make. 300 Sensational Soups
Each of the soups has easy to follow instructions – most of them with only 3-4 steps (that is MY kind of cooking). The authors provide tips for each soup, things like substitutions, ingredient variations, cook times, or where to find unique ingredients in the grocery store.
We covered the warm soups – and how comforting they can be on a cold day, but have you had a cold soup? Those are my new favorite! I especially enjoy the cold soups featuring fruits and exciting flavor mixes like Cold Thai-Style Coconut Mango soup, or something with veggies like Chilled Cucumber soup with Yogurt and Mint. In addition to the cold soups, they have dessert soups. Tonight my husband and I made Frozen Hot Chocolate Soup – and I think tomorrow we are going to try Mint Chocolate Chip Soup.
It has been fun to try out new soup options, it is quite possible my husband and I have tried way too many soups in the last couple weeks – but, it gives me a good chance to try my great blender, and my skills in the kitchen. And, if we need to – we can always have a couple weeks of soup again if one of us gets sick this winter!
If you are looking for some new recipes this winter, you can find 300 Sensational Soups at Amazon.com SRP $24.95 – but it is cheaper than that at Amazon.com right now.
What is your go-to soup recipe? Could it use some revamping?
