Check all of your email accounts if you enter sweepstakes. I know a lot of people have separate email accounts for sweepstakes and giveaways only. I actually recommend that. But, you have to check them all frequently. If you don’t you could be missing out on winning notifications. Also, make sure to check your spam boxes.
Check Your Emails
If you enter a lot of sweepstakes and giveaways, your inbox can become overwhelming – very quickly. Often you will be signing up for offers and subscribing to blogs and websites in order to enter. For this reason, a lot of sweepstakers create a separate account just for entering. However, now that I am on the other side (running giveaways) I am noticing how many people that do not respond to winning emails.
Lately, I have at least 3-4 winners per month that never respond to my winning notification emails. This leads me to believe that either my emails are going to their spam boxes, or that they are not checking their emails. In one case the person that won was still actively entering my giveaways each day, and yet, never responded to my THREE emails. I also tweeted to this person and tried to contact them on Facebook. I don’t understand? I had seen them entering every single giveaway and they never once replied back to me. Think of all the prizes they could be missing out on!
I felt the need to post this as a reminder for us all. I, too, have an account for promotion-type emails, and am guilty of not checking it often enough. I certainly don’t want to miss out on anything awesome, so I am scheduling a reminder to check each one of my accounts daily. If you take ten minutes a day, it can really make a difference.
Set Up Google Alerts
Another way to possibly be notified of a win is to setup a Google alert with your name. This will only work if you have an uncommon last name. If your last name is “Smith” don’t do it! Your inbox will be flooded because way too many people have that last name. I used to do this with my maiden name, but now my married name is a little too common.
Google alerts can be helpful in some cases. If you set one up with your name, you will be notified whenever your name is listed on the web. So, if you end up on a winner’s list, this could give you a heads up.
Don’t miss out on any of your well-deserved winnings! Make sure to check those emails! 🙂
