What is a Pop Up Business?
Honestly, I had to figure that out myself! Embarrassingly enough, I didn't really know when I first got this book (I thought it was just a business book–oops). Pop up businesses have been around for a while, but are becoming increasingly more popular due to their excellent results in boosting relationships with customers. A pop up business is tailor made for a specific space. They have a clear start and end date, only open for a specific amount of time. This is a different way to do business, and offers something unique to both the customer and the venture.
With the economy the way it is and so many empty spaces, starting a pop up is easier than ever. If you have an at-home business or sell mainly online, a pop up can give your business a kick in the pants. It can introduce you to the public and allow you to create a name for yourself outside of the web. Relationships can build lifelong customers that will keep coming back even when the pop up has left the building!
I know there have been several times when I drive by a “coming soon” sign and I am instantly intrigued. What new treasures will be found in this new store? To show my support and satisfy my curiosity, I always try to stop in to check them out. Sadly, places like this usually seem busy for a few weeks, and then the buzz wears off. Another reason why pop ups are such a great idea! They can just jump ship and move along once the excitement dies down. Since pop ups are designed for quick removal, it's easy to just “pop up” somewhere else!
