Do you have a favorite snack food that you grab whenever you are craving at the gas station or grocery store? Is it something that is probably not on ANY diet plan out there? Mine would probably be… pretzels or something else salty. I recently got the chance to review a new cookbook “Classic Snacks Made From Scratch” from Casey Barber – and it is so much fun!
Classic Snack Food Made From Scratch
This cookbook has a great selection of snack food to make at home. From Cakey Treats like Hostess Chocolate Cupcakes, to Ice Cream Treats like Klondike Bars or Pudding Pops. I was especially excited to try one of the Salty Snacks, the pretzel rods with sea salt – to fulfill my salty food craving. They were easy to make with things that I already had at home – but some of the other items did require a little more, like a whole section of food that would be deep fried or an ice cream maker – although I am almost tempted to go pick up a fryer so I can make myself some of my own sour cream and onion chips!
All of the recipes have a difficulty level – which for someone like me, is somewhat appreciated. It is good to know what I might be headed into ahead of time! And list the weird things you might need like cheese powder or a donut cutter up by the ingredients so you can be prepared OR rule out projects that you might not be able to take on without a quick trip to your best friend’s house for the donut cutter.
Quick note: for those of you worried about the Twinkie shortage of 2012 – there is a recipe to make them at home!
You can find Classic Snacks Made From Scratch at Amazon for less than $10 – totally worth the purchase just for the fun of making your own goldfish crackers successfully!
