I am so excited to have partnered with SocialMoms and Silk to bring you this post about protein in the morning. Protein is such an important macronutrient to include in your day, but especially with breakfast for the whole family–including the kids!
Protein for Breakfast
Most of you know I am in school full time right now studying nutrition science. Most people think wow, your family must eat really healthy. Well, I have a confession to make… I am guilty of buying sugar-loaded junk including cereals, granola bars and fruit snacks for my kids because they are convenient. I mean, hey, I'm in school full time, work and have two kids with extra curricular schedules that never work in my favor! But even I know that is no excuse for sending them off to school with a sugar high.
Mornings are usually a nightmare for me. I am an absolute zombie until about 10 am. Sadly, this means the kids don't get a hot breakfast on school days unless it's coming out of the microwave. Otherwise I try to make eggs or something with a little protein to balance out all those carbs. But usually they end up running out of the house only having had a quick bowl of crap cereal.
For me, I usually have a protein shake because it's quick and I workout in the morning so it's great a pre-workout treat. The kids have asked me to share but I know that my shakes have way too much protein for their little bodies… (Kids shouldn't have too much protein because it can be hard on their kidneys.) But some is great and necessary to keep them feeling full and fueling their brains for the day.
No More Excuses
Thanks to Silk Fruit & Protein, our mornings are a lot less stressful and actually a pleasure! With a good source of soy protein (5 grams per serving), calcium, vitamin D and C, and no dairy, lactose, gluten, casein, egg or MSG, these protein-juice blends are perfect for all of us! And, because they don't contain those top allergens I love offering this to our tiny sleepover guests!
With great flavors including: Wild Berry, Mango Peach (my fave) and Strawberry Banana there is something everyone will like. Plus they are now offering a half gallon size! I had kind of a hard time finding this product the first time but this store locator helps a lot. I've requested that my usual grocer start carrying it and they agreed to order it! 😀 You can usually find it by the other Silk products near the plant-based-beverages which for me, is in the dairy section.
Enjoy $1 off Silk Fruit & Protein!
The kids love all the flavors and I swear they thought I was crazy the first time I gave it to them. They thought I was giving them dessert with their breakfast! Both my kids also love this for a quick after school snack. I especially love it because I know it is great fuel for all their strenuous extra curricular activities.
*I just have to add as a side note: I love this brand so much! I have been using their Almond Milks and Coconut Milk for years. They have, by far, the best quality and taste!*
