Christmas is coming quickly, are you ready yet? One of the traditions I enjoy about Christmas is having a variety of cookies and treats in the kitchen. Since we have our own home now, I have realized it is ME that is going to have to fill the kitchen with cookies and treats. As I hunt to find family favorites, I was excited to review a copy of a new cook book full of cookies, European Cookies for Every Occasion.
European Cookies for Every Occasion
My husband and I are both of mixed European descent, so this cookbook is fitting. With recipes for 42 authentic European cookies including chocolate crescents, jam blossoms, and lemon bars – there are many of them to try in order to find our favorites! I particularly enjoyed the step-by-step instructions that came for each of the recipes. Usually you are lucky to have a picture of the finished product in a cookbook, but for each of the recipes in this book, there are multiple pages filled with exactly how to tackle each step. You can also choose cookies based on their difficulty. If you are like me, it is better to start at the beginning and try to work my way up to the more involved cookies. At the beginning of the book, there are also techniques explaining how to work with marzipan, molding chocolate and how to best handle dough.
The author of the book shares traditional recipes from her experience living in Austria and Hungary growing up. These European cookies are not the giant sugar cookies covered in frosting that are usually associated with Christmas. They are all rather dainty and quite pretty. This makes them a great hostess gift at holiday parties this season or a special treat for guests at your own party. You can find the European Cookies for Every Occasion cook book on Amazon – the Kindle version is only $9.99.
