Posting Blog Income Reports

I am thinking about posting blog income reports again, but something is holding me back.

There’s an annoying feeling that appears when I think of posting what I make online.

I decided to create a list of pros and cons when it comes to creating monthly blog income reports.

Posting Blog Income Reports - Pros and Cons

Posting Blog Income Reports – Pros and Cons

Pros:

Reality check

I use Quickbooks and enter all my income and expenses in like a boss.

However, it’s easy to let months fly by without me looking at my bottom line.

Our recent refinance forced me to print a YTD profit and loss statement, and it floored me.

I honestly didn’t realize how much less I had made this year compared to last year so far.

Creating a monthly blog income report will open my eyes to what’s going on more often.

Encouraging

Reading other blogger income reports can be encouraging.

Not only am I curious as hell, but to see that bloggers can pull in serious bank keeps me going.

I wish more bloggers did income reports.

Since there’s no set salary or typical wages for bloggers, you never know what someone is making or not making.

Educational

There’s always something to learn when it comes to analyzing your reports.

Just like stalking your traffic stats, valuable info is found in your income streams

Earning opportunity

Not going to lie, a monthly income report is a perfect place to use your referral and affiliate links.

Once people see you made money with a network, they will want to join.

Might as well be from your referral link if possible.

Cons:

Seems braggy

I asked some of my blogger friends how they feel about income reports and a few said they don’t post them because it feels like bragging.

On the flip side, maybe you aren’t making enough to report.

I completely understand that feeling.

The reality is that no matter what you post there will be people out there that judge you for it.

No matter what the numbers are or aren’t, I think it’s all about the journey.

So, the pros I listed above definitely boot this hurdle out of the way for me.

Competitive edge

Back when I used to do traffic reports on Sweep Tight I had a blogger ask why I would tell people which posts got the most traffic because that’s just inviting them to steal that idea.

Well, perhaps I am naive in that my brain doesn’t automatically assume people will steal or copy my posts.

In any case, I don’t think it completely matters.

We all have our different ways of doing posts.

Some people do extensive SEO keyword research, some bloggers focus on super catchy titles.

Our pictures are different, our tones are unique, you name it.

Off topic

Sometimes an income report is so far off the blog’s niche that it will cause mass confusion amongst the readers.

That’s kind of how it was on Sweep Tight.

Not that ST has a narrow niche, but that’s another story.

I think my readers were a tad confused when I suddenly told them about my income.

A lot of freaking work

That’s right.

Creating blog income reports takes time and research.

It’s not a quick post to toss up.

My Decision

Look at that, it’s a tie.

In any case, writing this post allowed me to make up my mind.

I will start doing monthly reports here on Feather Pixels.

It will force me to be accountable for my work, encourage me to make more, and hopefully help other bloggers boost their monthly income.

Let me know if you are a blogger, online influencer, or entrepreneur who posts income reports.

I would love to come by and creep read them. 😉

What are your thoughts on blog income reports?

I probably won't ever do a monthly income report, but I find a lot of inspiration in reading them. I'll be eagerly awaiting you monthly reports!

I have never posted an income report but I do read them from others. Sometimes it's nice to see that I am doing as good as others while most of them are doing much, MUCH better. I have looked into Quickbooks for myself but I didn't really like it. I have been using spreadsheets since last year. I made it a habit to jot every thing into it AS SOON as it comes up, otherwise I would forget. We all know how frustrating that can be when tax time rolls around!

I haven't posted any of my reports. I don't make a ton of money off my blog anyway. But it is interesting to see the reports on blogs that do make a lot of money.

I completely agree with you!! I love to see how others succeed and what worked for the blogger as well, plus it's fun to see how everyone is diversifying their income!

I'm a blogger but I don't think anyone would be interested in what I make online...so it hasn't even crossed my mind. That being said, it IS encouraging to see bloggers just like me making a living doing just like me. Keep it up girl.
