Whether you’ve read Roald Dahl’s, The BFG, or not, you’re going to love The BFG Movie 2016. It hits theaters everywhere July 1st! I was able to attend a screening of the movie with my family in order to share my honest opinions.

In Disney’s fantasy-adventure THE BFG, directed by Steven Spielberg and based on Roald Dahl’s beloved classic, a precocious 10-year old named Sophie (Ruby Barnhill) befriends the BFG (Oscar™ winner Mark Rylance), a Big Friendly Giant from Giant Country.

The BFG Movie 2016 – In Theaters July 1st

I read the book earlier this year and the movie did not disappoint. In fact, it brought more color, emotion, and excitement than my own imagination.

The animation is spectacular. The story itself is adorably beautiful. As Steven Spielberg’s first Disney movie, he created a magnificent world with a great cast.

A little girl around the age of 6 was sitting next to me in the theater. She was having the time of her life watching this movie. There were moments when she was snuggled up with her mom, and then times when she was belly laughing so hard I had to do a double-take to see if she was breathing.

My kids are a bit older, so they didn’t have that raw, youthful reaction, but they loved it in their own way. It’s a great film for families but especially those with kids between the ages of 5-11.

I will encourage reading the book before seeing the movie, but either way is fine. I just love giving my own imagination a blank slate and then seeing how someone else portrays the story and characters.

It’s also a great bedtime story… literally. Whimsical and spritely concepts of catchable dreams give little minds, and adults alike, perfect ingredients for a night of wonderful dreams.

The moral and lessons of the story are excellent for all ages. We learn to never let bullies push us around just because we’re small.

Even giants can be made to feel small. Small after all is more of a feeling than a fact. Anyone can be big with their actions.

There is a lot of fun stuff here. I will have to let my daughter look at it with me and see what the grandchildren may want. The movie sounds awesome!
