Benefits of Eating Avocado and Best Ways to Eat Avocados

Do you eat avocado? I read about them years ago, and once I learned about all the benefits they offer, I started incorporating them into my daily diet.

Plus, I love the taste and texture they add to my favorite dishes.

Benefits of Eating Avocado

After reading an article that talked about how nature gave us clues as to what foods are good for certain organs in our bodies based on how they look–example: carrots are good for the eyes because they look like an eye when cut–I became obsessed with avocados.

What organ do they look like? The uterus. And everyone knows by now, that my uterus and I are rarely on good terms.

In an attempt to appease this beastly organ, I started eating more avocados.

Honestly, I don’t know if that situation is even worth attempting to treat without surgery but adding more avocado to my diet is a good idea regardless.

  • According to a survey by Fresh Avocados – Love One Today®, over 75% of the fat in avocados is unsaturated (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats), making them a great substitute for foods high in saturated fat.
  • Avocados, which are a fruit although most people think of them as a vegetable, contain less than one gram of sugar per 1-ounce, the least amount of sugar per serving of any other fresh fruit.
  • Avocado contributes nearly 20 vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients, making it a good choice to help meet nutrient needs.
  • Avocados act as a “nutrient booster” by helping the body to better absorb fat-soluble nutrients, such as alpha- and beta-carotene and lutein, from foods that are eaten with the fruit.
  • So versatile, fresh avocados can be used in any meal or dish. They can be used as a recipe substitute for bad fats, a way to add naturally good fats, a nutrient-dense fruit to add nutrient value, and as a vegan or vegetarian possible alternative to dairy products.

  • Throw sliced avocado on top of any egg dish
  • Cube them and put them into your salad
  • Mash with a bit of garlic and use on sandwiches
  • Add them to your deviled egg filling mix
  • Use as a replacement for butter in baked recipes (my favorite chocolate chip cookies use half butter, half avocado)

There are a plethora of ways to add this delicious fruit into your diet, but those are just a few of my favorite methods.

Check out these pistachio brownies which also have avocado in them!

I love avocados Unfortunately where we live they are tricky at best, but when I do find good ones I eat them quickly. No one else in the house likes them, which is fine by me. I will open hem up get a spoon a bit of salt and eat them right out of the peel (shell whatever) I like them on sandwiches and other things too but it is rare they make it that far.

I've been eating a lot more avocados lately. Until recently, I think the only way I really ate them was as guacamole, but I'm trying to make healthier meals and cut out unhealthy ingredients. One thing I read was that one of the best things to eat when you suffer from depression is a breakfast sandwich on spouted grain bread with egg and avocado. I haven't tried that yet, but if true, I really need to.

This month avocados are expensive in my area, but I do love to eat them each week. This are terrific ideas also.

They're one of my favorite foods but I wish they were riper at the store when I really get a craving. It's hard to wait for them to ripen! :)
