Gifts for People who Can’t Sleep

Know someone that has a hard time getting the proper ZZZZZ’s they need each night? Here are some ideas for gifts for people who can’t sleep. Of course, we make no promises.

We aren’t medical professionals or qualified to give sleep advice. However, we love to find unique and helpful products to help guide you toward a fun gift-giving season. Some of the products were sent for review purposes, and we are using affiliate links. All opinions are our own.

It helps to know the reason why the person has trouble sleeping. Here are some reasons we can think of due to our personal experiences of insomnia.

Gifts for People who Have Trouble Sleeping

Can’t Get Comfortable

I know some people who can nod off anywhere, but for sleep-challenged folks, comfort is a must. Obviously, you need the right mattress. Most people won’t give a mattress as a gift, so let’s move on to pillows.

I cannot have too many pillows. They are strategically placed all around the bed in the spots where they fit best. It’s like my very own Tetris-like pillow puzzle. Some are firm, some are squishy, but the key piece must be ideal for the person.

The best pillow to give as a gift is an adjustable pillow. Shredded memory foam is an excellent option for comfort and support. Your gift recipient will lay their head on a cloud-like layer of foam, with the ability to adjust the supportive base.

Temperature is another comfort struggle. Too hot? Always cold? Couples often disagree on bedroom temps. It’s best to get a dual-zone heated blanket or mattress pad if your partner tends to run more hot-blooded.

Too Much or Not Enough Noise

Some people need noise, and some people need complete silence to sleep. I am part of the latter group. I am such a light sleeper that my dogs’ paws on the ground wake me up. Other people need white noise or the light hum of a fan. There are products to help in both categories.

Can’t Shut Off Thoughts

We’ve probably all seen the meme about being tired all day only to have your brain play a highlight reel of embarrassing events at 3 am. Or, perhaps you get a flood of brilliant ideas when it’s supposed to be sleeping time. The worst one is when your to-do list gnaws at you while you try to rest.

Instead of trying to chase away what’s racing through your mind, try to write it down instead. Keep a journal next to the bed, so there’s a place for ideas and thoughts. Writing them down gives your brain permission to forget them for the night. Related items are found in our gifts for anxious people guide.

Perhaps some natural vitamins and herbs can help your mind wind down and relax before bed. Consult a doctor before consuming supplements, and pay attention to how you feel after taking anything. Although supplements can be helpful for some, they aren’t for everyone.

Getting enough magnesium plays a huge role in getting a good night sleep. I apply Magnesium Lotion sleep formula to easily get a boost of magnesium. The sleep formula also has relaxing lavender and 3mg of melatonin to help with sleep.

A weighted blanket is another helpful item to help with anxiety and insomnia. They are shown to help naturally stimulate the production of serotonin and melatonin.

Too Much or Not Enough Light

Light can go either way just like noise. Where some may like it black as a starless sky, others might feel more comfortable with a nightlight. Regardless of personal preference, our bodies naturally respond to a circadian rhythm that is easily interrupted if someone works nights.

Invest in some blackout curtains or an eye mask. I just purchased an eye mask that was hyped up so much that I couldn’t resist. I’ll let you know how that works out once it arrives. <== Update — the one below is amazing. I wear it all time. If I feel a migraine coming on, it’s best to use right out of the freezer.

Someone is Snoring

Snoring not only affects the innocent bed partner, but it also interferes with the snorer’s sleep. Anyone who snores should see a doctor, but there are some gift ideas for people who snore in the meantime. A couple’s basket for snoring is a cute idea, too.

I use to have a water-bed when I was younger so having a water base pillow sounds pretty awesome. I like comfort when I sleep so this seems to be perfect to try out.
