I don’t know if you’ve heard, but lately I’ve been doing a bit of self-reconstructing (I think I’ve only mentioned it in ALL of my reviews!). Not too long ago I had the pleasure of reviewing a fabulous book that helped me improve my self-image, and the way I viewed my body overall. Well lo-and-behold, here comes another tremendous book- this time from registered nurse Lynn Durham- called From Frazzled to Fantastic: You’re One Thought Away from Feeling Better. From Frazzled to Fantastic
In this book, Durham focuses on the mind-body-spirit connection we’ve all been hearing so much about lately. It’s really quite a lovely way to reorganize your life. I believe my favorite bit of Durham’s book was the way in which she reinforces her thoughts and ideas with clever phrases. For example, throughout the book you will find things like ‘forgiveness is for-giving you the gift of peace’ and using the 3 R’s of ‘relax, reflect, respond’. There are just so many ways that Durham works to help us understand that life is meant to be a joyful experience, and by letting go of the things that we need not hold onto, by learning to accept the good in ourselves and in others, and by taking a moment to appreciate the things we have, we can enjoy the life we have.
Another aspect of Lynn’s book that I truly appreciated was her understanding that often it is the small things in life that, if we choose to acknowledge them, will bring us the most joy. Anything from offering a smile or thanks when it wasn’t expected to choosing to act in a loving manner rather than, perhaps, a condemning manner can be ways to increase our own happiness, as well as the happiness of others.
From my own personal experience I have always believed that to identify a good book, you must only open it to any random page and read the first sentence your eye lands on. If it grabs you, makes you consider yourself and your life, and poses questions in your mind, you have chosen well. Lynn Durham’s books is capable of this, and promises to offer you food for mind, body, and soul.
