I’ve recently been enjoying the new product from Luden’s ‘Orange Vitamin C Supplement Drops’. The 130-year-old Luden’s throat drop brand is expanding it’s line to include new Orange Supplement Drops. Unlike traditional Luden’s drops, the new offering has been reformulated to contain real orange juice and provide 100% of the recommended daily value of Vitamin C. They are about as tasty as you’d expect, sweet, juicy and very orange like, so, of course have the naughty corn syrup in them… (whatever is wrong with good old fashioned, organic, cane sugar, anyway?) There are few things more certain in life than at some point you WILL catch a cold… and Vitamin C is both a cure and preventative for that cold!
My parents always started off our day with a tall glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. And why not? I grew up in Southern California and as a matter of practice, we had oranges available year round. The good kind – juicy and sweet with a nice aroma of citrus. My brother and I were very rarely ill… and when we were out of OJ we had to chew up those nasty discs that were too sour to be made from actual oranges. :::blech::: Enter sweet, yummy Luden’s! Luden’s Orange (with Vitamin C) Supplement Drops have rolled out and were recently added to their throat drop line, just in time for the cold and flu season!
Did you know? Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant and encourages a healthy immune system. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that is necessary for normal growth and development.
Water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water. Leftover amounts of the vitamin leave the body through the urine. That means you need a continuous supply of such vitamins in your diet. And as Vitamin C is concerned Luden’s hits the mark with this drop!
Vitamin C is needed for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. It is used to:
* Form an important protein used to make skin, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels
* Heal wounds and form scar tissue
* Repair and maintain cartilage, bones, and teeth
Vitamin C is one of many antioxidants. Antioxidants are nutrients that block some of the damage caused by free radicals.
* Free radicals are made when your body breaks down food or when you are exposed to tobacco smoke or radiation.
* The buildup of free radicals over time is largely responsible for the aging process.
* Free radicals may play a role in cancer, heart disease, and conditions like arthritis.
The body is not able to make vitamin C on its own, and it does not store vitamin C. It is therefore important to include plenty of vitamin C-containing foods in your daily diet.
For many years, vitamin C has been a popular remedy for the common cold.
* Research shows that for most people, vitamin C supplements or vitamin C-rich foods do not reduce the risk of getting the common cold.
* However, people who take vitamin C supplements regularly might have slightly shorter colds or somewhat milder symptoms.
* Taking a vitamin C supplement after a cold starts does not appear to be helpful.
Luden’s Orange with Vitamin C are flavored with real orange juice and sold in convenient resealable, single drop, packs of 25 for a very reasonable $1.79 Much less expensive than real, fresh off the tree oranges in this economy. While these Orange drops still soothe your throat like the other classic Luden’s flavors, these give you the added bonus of Vitamin C to help ward off those pesky cold and flu germs that would like to overtake you and make you feel bad.
Remember – these are NOT candy. They are small, hard and shaped oblong, and a wee one could choke on them. Overdosing is also entirely possible if you eat too many. Please read the instructions BEFORE giving these out, and make sure you talk with your pediatrician before giving Luden’s drops to anyone under the age of 5. Luden’s Orange (with Vitamin C) contain 100% Vitamin C per drop, for adults based on daily value recommendations. Even though they look like candies, taste like candies – they are NOT candies and should be treated like any other medication in your home and kept up in the ‘way high’ where tiny hands cannot attempt to rip open the nifty resealable zip-loc baggie these come in.
“We’re confident that anyone with minor throat discomfort is going to love Luden’s orange supplement drops,” Luden’s VP marketing Albert Hwang said. “Luden’s is all about soothing throat irritations with great-tasting throat drops. Now we also have Luden’s orange supplement drops, with real orange juice and vitamin C.”
Suggested retail price for the new Luden’s orange supplement drops is $1.79. Luden’s Throat Drops are available in bags of 25 individually wrapped drops.
