Here’s a new source to find new movies and independent films. I am not one for spending much money on weekend entertainment, so the hubby and I are often left to have movie night – just about every week! I was so excited to hear about and for the chance to review a new movie streaming service called IndieFlix – something out of the big box office movies, but tons more meaning and depth to many of them!
New Movies with IndieFlix
IndieFlix was launched by independent filmmakers looking for a new platform with which to share lesser known movies, still award winners, still feature in box offices around the world – but on a smaller scale. Indie movies are often great works, and I love that so many tackle tough issues or document real things happening in our world.
One of the movies you can find at IndieFlix is Finding Kind. Two girls travel across America to tell the story behind girl-against-girl bullying. It started as a movie, but quickly became a campaign and an internationally recognized movement. It has become an amazing school assembly program that can be discussed with girls in the classroom to bring about awareness of the girl-against-girl bullying problem and how it is affecting girls in some of their most formative years. Kid-against-kid bullying, thankfully, is gaining more attention in local communities, but it is so important to realize how much it affects kids. The girls in the movie talk about losing hope, not wanting to try anymore, and giving up on life at such a young age – leading to permanent change in their personalities. Their goal is to reach out early and help others realize the power of their actions and words, the power of bullies and how to take their power away.
On the website, there are thousands of independent films, you can sort by genre, length, film-festival, number of views, or country. I found quick quirky cartoons that are just over a minute, and full length films like the Finding Kind documentary.
