Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi. I'm Tracy from the blog Cotton Pickin Cute. I'm a G.R.I.T.S., i.e. Girl Raised In The South. I live in Jacksonville, FL. I still think I'm 31 instead of 51. I'm married to Neil and have 1 son living in N.Y. I'm the proud Grandma of 3. I'm mom to 3 fur babies that are still at home. Who ever knew I would love blogging so much. I get a thrill from contest and sweepstakes, love decorating (or day-dreaming of it), sewing and all kinds of crafts.
How long have you been entering sweepstakes?
I'm been entering sweeps since 1992. I used to enter locally and also ordered some of the sweeps newsletters before the internet was widely used. Back then it was fun but nothing huge. I entered all the time online in the early 2000's then stayed away awhile. This past year I've been doing a lot more of it. Mostly blog giveaways.
How did you discover the hobby of sweepstaking?
Years ago they had a few of the newsletters in the magazine section of the grocery store for sale. I enjoyed reading them more than anything. I have always loved a good “Look what I did story”.
What is your most memorable or exciting win?
What really got me into sweepstakes was my big accidental win. In 1992 I received a phone call at work from Easter Seals saying I had won there trip. I'm always leery of any phone call that says that but I asked how and she explained it was through a Popeye's Fried Chicken promotion. I barely remembered filling out my name, etc… and paying a dollar to get the money saving coupons at the restaurant. That's when I thought okay this is legit, so I asked where the trip was to, totally expecting to hear Disney World since we're only about 2 hours away. When she said to San Francisco, CA for 2, was I ever blown away. Yep 4 days and 3 nights with air and hotel paid.
YIPPEE!!! Neil, didn't believe it would really be free until he went with me to the Easter Seals office and saw that it was a true charity organization.
I had no idea it would be so luxurious. We stayed at the World Famous Sheraton Palace Hotel in the heart of the financial district. It was originally built in 1875. The Garden court, which is spectacular was restored to her original 1909 splendor after a $150 million renovation. I'm sure I will never be staying anywhere so grand again. My son Ty and I went and had the time of our lives experiencing San Francisco with only a trolly ride to Fisherman's Wharf. We travel by trolly, subway, bus and lots of walking all over town including across the Golden Gate Bridge.
What is your favorite way to enter sweeps?
I still love local, in person entries because the odds are so much better. I don't find them very often but I'm also not actively looking. I do most of my entries on blogs. Thanks to people like Jen at Sweep Tight, it's so easy to have them delivered right to you with her blog.
Got any tips you would like to share?
Of course the number one tip would be to enter. You can't win if you don't enter and the more you enter the bigger the odds of winning. If a contest or sweeps allows you to enter as often as you like or has bonus entries, go for it. That's the way to win. I never enter by mail anymore. There are less sweepstakes like that out there with the convenience of the internet and texting by cell phone. Mailing is too expensive to do it effectively anyway. Remember that with local contest you have a much greater chance of winning. I've won everything from a beach cruiser bike, a bar-b-q grill, bedroom comforted set and more to a trip across the country from local sweeps.
What is your favorite site on the web to find sweeps?
Well besides the obvious…Sweep Tight, I've won several through Sweepstakes Advantage.com It's easy to keep track of what's going on. The largest thing I've won there was 3rd prize from MTV. I received 4 new tires, 4 new rims, and a portable GPS, DVD, media player (this was several years ago, so that was pretty cool then) that prize was work over $3000 Thousand. Dollars.
