9 Celebrities Who Appeared on Saved by the Bell Before Fame
From 1989 to 1993, Saved by the Bell made Saturday mornings must-watch TV. Up to that point, cartoons had dominated the airwaves, which didn’t sit well with the tweens and teens wanting something a little more on their level. It was the kind of show that felt electric, fresh, and genuinely alive in a way that Saturday morning TV hadn’t been before. What most fans don’t realize, though, is that tucked inside all those episodes of Zack’s schemes and Screech’s geeky disasters were some incredibly familiar faces. Faces that would later become massive stars. Let’s dive in.
1. Leah Remini – The One Who Almost Stole Zack’s Heart

Along with the gang’s summer jobs came the opportunity for romance, which is where Leah Remini entered. She appeared as a recurring guest star during the Malibu Sands Beach Club episodes, playing Zack’s girlfriend, Stacey Carosi. Honestly, Stacey might be one of the most memorable love interests the whole show ever produced. She had attitude, she had wit, and she genuinely kept Zack on his toes in a way Kelly rarely did.
After her stint on Saved by the Bell, Remini landed a starring role in The King of Queens alongside Kevin James. The show was a huge success and ran from 1998 until 2007. In 2013, Remini left the Church of Scientology and has since been a critic and activist against the religion, appearing in the award-winning documentary series Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. Most recently, she starred in The Second Act alongside Jennifer Lopez.
2. Tori Spelling – Screech’s Dream Girl

Tori Spelling was only in three episodes of Saved by the Bell, but she made a huge impact as Violet Bickerstaff. Best known for playing Donna Martin on Beverly Hills, 90210, Spelling first guest-starred on Saved by the Bell the same week 90210 premiered. That’s a wild piece of trivia right there. She was essentially launching two TV careers at the exact same moment.
Donna Martin was similar to Violet in that they both came from wealthy families, but Violet was a certified nerd. In fact, she stands out as the one character who happily dated Screech. Spelling continued to star in 90210 until it came to an end in 2000. She is one of the few 90210 alums to appear in every episode of the show.
3. Eric Dane – From Bayside Volleyball to Dr. McSteamy

Before appearing on our TV screens in his most notable role as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, Dane was a young actor whose first-ever TV appearance was playing volleyball hunk Tad Pogue on the beach at the annual Malibu Sands volleyball match. It was a “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” moment that only true fans will catch. Seriously, if you weren’t paying attention, you’d miss him entirely.
Years before he appeared in the infamous towel scene, he played Tad Pogue for one episode of Saved by the Bell. In season three, Tad was a volleyball player and Zack Morris’ rival for the affections of Stacey Carosi. He only appeared for one episode. It’s the kind of cameo that retrospectively becomes a fan obsession, once you know who he became.
4. Denise Richards – The Girl Who Faked a Drowning

Denise Richards has had a long and successful career. Most notably, she was a Bond Girl in 1999’s The World is Not Enough, and starred in Wild Things. She had roles in many other movies and TV series. Her Hollywood journey has been genuinely remarkable, spanning action, drama, and reality TV. But it all started somewhere surprisingly humble.
As the gang’s time at the Malibu Sands Beach Club came to an end, lifeguard Slater attracted the attention of every girl on the beach. One, played by Denise Richards, went to extremes when she pretended to be drowning, so he would rescue her. It worked and he took her to the final barbecue. As Richards’ fame grew, her appearance on Saved by the Bell was often the subject of conversation on talk shows.
5. Scott Wolf – The Most Persistent Extra in Bayside History

To most, Scott Wolf will always be known as Party of Five’s Bailey Salinger, but before becoming one of the biggest heartthrobs of the ’90s with that role, he appeared in Saved by the Bell. While he is best known for his appearance as a Glee club member alongside the gang, Wolf actually appeared in eight Saved by the Bell episodes from 1990 to 1992. Eight episodes. That is dedication from a man nobody had heard of yet.
Scott Wolf was appearing as a background player in nine episodes. He was everyone from a waiter at The Max to a guy at the movie theater to a member of the glee club. Scott Wolf is an actor and producer known for his roles in Party of Five, White Squall, Go, Everwood, V, Perception, The Night Shift, and many others. The man absolutely paid his dues.
6. Christine Taylor – The SAT Tutor Zack Never Deserved

A lesser known role that Christine Taylor played was Heather on Saved by the Bell. Heather asks Zach to tutor her after he miraculously scored a 1500 on the SATs. The whole episode is peak Saved by the Bell absurdity, which makes it even more fun knowing the actress in the role would go on to become genuinely iconic. I think it’s one of the most underrated cameos on the whole show.
Christine Taylor played Marcia Brady in The Brady Bunch Movie perfectly. She starred in other movies such as Zoolander and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. Christine is also well-known for great guest starring roles in some of our favorite sitcoms. She played Bonnie, Ross’ girlfriend with the bald head on Friends, and Ellen on Seinfeld, Jerry’s “perfect” girlfriend until he fears that she’s a loser.
7. James Marsden – Homecoming King and Future X-Men Cyclops

Before James Marsden was charming everyone with his leading roles in movies such as X-Men, Enchanted, The Best of Me, and 27 Dresses, he was getting his start with one of his first roles in a season one episode of Saved by the Bell: The New Class. Marsden played Homecoming King Chad Westerfield, who pretends to befriend everyone to get the votes, only for it to be exposed that he really is a bully who picks on nerds. Let’s be real, Chad Westerfield is the most on-the-nose villain name in television history.
Then known as Jimmy Marsden, the future Cyclops began his career on Saved by the Bell: The New Class. He only appeared in one episode, but also had brief roles in other classic ’90s shows like The Nanny, Blossom, and Party of Five, before starring in blockbuster films. The climb from Chad Westerfield to a Marvel superhero is one of Hollywood’s more satisfying origin stories.
8. Milo Ventimiglia – The Hospital Volunteer Who Couldn’t Get a Date

Before he became associated with his fan-favorite Gilmore Girls character Jess Mariano, Milo Ventimiglia appeared in one episode of the Saved by the Bell spin-off, The New Class. Milo Ventimiglia played Greg in Season 4, episode 13, “The Final Curtain,” a character who volunteers at a hospital, where Eric Little is spending time. It is genuinely hard to picture Jack Pearson, the emotional core of This Is Us, fumbling his way through a hospital volunteer shift in Bayside.
Around the time of his Saved by the Bell: The New Class role, Ventimiglia appeared on other teen series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and a few years later, played a boarding school student on the short-lived The Opposite Sex. Milo Ventimiglia’s best-rated performances remain his romantic leads, from Jess to Jack Pearson on This Is Us. It’s hard to say for sure, but that early hustle of teen TV guest spots likely shaped the actor he became.
9. Patrick Muldoon – The Man Saved by the Bell Fans Loved to Hate

Some remember Patrick Muldoon as the most hated man in Saved by the Bell history. After all, he was the awful guy who broke up Zach and Kelly, and then had the audacity to break Kelly’s heart. If you watched the show as a kid and felt genuine rage at a fictional character, there’s a solid chance Patrick Muldoon was the reason. He was that good at being that bad.
Patrick Muldoon went on to become a ’90s soap star, playing Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives. From there, he moved to the nighttime soap Melrose Place and then Starship Troopers. A few Lifetime movies followed, and he is now a producer and singer/songwriter. Patrick won the Soap Opera Digest award for best new actor and spent the next three years at NBC. From Bayside heartbreaker to soap opera heartthrob, the career arc makes complete sense.
The Hallway That Launched Careers

Saved by the Bell was a young show, so many of their guest roles were played by up-and-coming actors. Some of these actors went on to become stars in their own right, and might look back fondly on the show that gave them their start. It is honestly remarkable how many household names walked those Bayside High hallways when nobody knew their names yet.
Think about it like this: Bayside High was less a fictional school and more an accidental casting agency for future stardom. Hollywood stars James Marsden, Taraji P. Henson, Milo Ventimiglia, Tara Reid, and Gabrielle Union all had guest parts on the show. The list just keeps growing the deeper you dig, and every new discovery makes the show feel even richer in retrospect.
Every era of television has its unofficial talent incubator, and for the early ’90s, it was clearly a Saturday morning show set in a California high school. The next time you rewatch a classic episode, keep your eyes open. You never know who might be lurking in the background, one breakout role away from everything. Did you recognize any of these faces the first time around?
