Earth Day Activities Kids Will Love Any Day
Earth Day activities kids will love are pretty easy to come up with. But with these awesome books and supplies you’ll be set for any and every day! After all, I am a firm believer that every day should be Earth Day!
Earth Day Activities Kids Will Love
National Geographic has a fantastic set of books for your little ones or even not-so-little ones. My kids are now 11 and 14 and they had fun with some of these activities. And they were fighting over who gets to keep the binoculars. But the good news is you can enter for a chance to win this gift pack below. It’s perfect to keep kids busy and active outside. Plus the tasks/missions are fun and educational. Or, if it’s an indoor day, the Look and Learn books are perfect for younger kids, while the Field Guides are more for older kids. Partnered with the binoculars (which are surprisingly great quality) they make for the ultimate bird watching–even from the window!
Hanging Bird Snacks
To inspire some good bird watching activity, we chose to do the “Feathery Feast” craft from the activity book. We tweaked it a little to use things we had on hand. We used peanut butter instead of lard. (NOTE: no one in our area has a nut allergy. Check with your neighbors before using nut butters to ensure the safety of everyone in the area!) We also decided not to use the raisins because they’re really bad for dogs and we have several that go outside and may snarf any that fall to the ground.
We simply gathered up some pine cones on a fun walk outside. We live in a pretty wooded area so they were super easy to find. But we also found that the dried coneflower seed pods from last season also worked well.
Supplies Needed:
- pine cones or other dried seed pod that will hold seeds (toilet paper tubes work too)
- all natural peanut butter or lard
- bird seed
- raisins (optional–omit around dogs)
- string
- scissors
Instructions:
Simply coat your pine cone or alternate item with peanut butter then roll in seeds to coat evenly. Depending on what you’re using you might find it helpful to tie the string to the pine cone especially, first–before coating in peanut butter. (Less messy in the end.)
Once it’s evenly coated, pick a tree that you can easily see and hang them from the branches. You’ll have birds coming for a snack in no time!
