A No-Campfire S’mores Dessert Giving Patriotic Vibes

Directions
Preheat your oven to 450°F. Set out three bowls—one with red sugar, one with blue, and one with plain water.

Stick a toothpick into each marshmallow. Dip it lightly in water, then roll in colored sugar. Make 3 blue, 8 red, and keep 5 plain.

Let them dry for 5 to 10 minutes. You want the sugar to stick well.

Cut each marshmallow in half with clean kitchen scissors. Wipe blades between colors to avoid mixing.

Pour the chocolate chips in an even layer in your baking dish. Add marshmallow halves cut-side down. Use the blue ones for a corner, then alternate red and white rows.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes. Watch closely toward the end. Marshmallows should puff and start turning golden.

Serve warm with graham crackers for dipping. That’s it.

Recipe Substitutions and Variations

- Swap red sugar marshmallows for strawberry slices
- Colored sprinkles may work if you can’t find sanding sugar
- Pretzel sticks are great dippers too
Tools you’ll need
Here are some kitchen tools you’ll need for this recipe.
Storage
This dip is best eaten right away while warm and gooey. If you do have leftovers, cover and store them in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at a low temperature until melted again. The marshmallows won’t look quite the same, but the flavor holds up.

Tips & Tricks
- Damp, not soaked. Marshmallows just need a light touch of water.
- Cover with foil if browning happens too fast.
- Serve immediately. It’s best when warm.
- Prep marshmallows ahead to save time later.

Recipe Notes & FAQ
Can I use milk chocolate instead?
Yes. It’s a little sweeter but melts just as well.
How do I keep the marshmallows from burning?
Start watching around the 7-minute mark. If they brown too quickly, lower the oven temp a bit.
Do I have to use colored sugar?
Nope. If you don’t want the flag look, plain marshmallows still look great and taste amazing.
