Ways to Save Money Locally
When thinking of ways to save money, don’t forget to check locally. These days everyone is trying to save. Chances are if you are looking to purchase something, there is another person near you trying to get rid of it. Sometimes you can even get things for free this way. For example, I have been trying to de-hoard for a while now. Some of my bigger workout equipment just doesn’t fit in this house (I went through a phase). I didn’t want to just throw it away, so I found local people that wanted it. They were thrilled to take it off my hands, and I was happy to have the extra space in my house!
Ways to Save Money Locally
Garage Sales: During the warmer seasons, it’s easy to find garage sales to peruse. You never know what you can find at them. A friend of mine found a brand new Keurig still in the box for only $5 at a local garage sale.
Classified Ads: If you are like me and completely dependent on digital media, don’t forget to pick up a paper now and then! Or, of course you can find used stuff ads online, too. The classifieds can be a goldmine for finding things that people no longer want. Also, popular online buying and selling websites usually have a local section.
Barter: Save on services and/or goods by bartering with neighbors and friends. It’s easy to exchange skills to help each other save.
Social Media: Facebook and Twitter can be extremely powerful in finding what you want. Depending on your personal network, it’s possible to have an answer in minutes. There are usually local groups to join, as well. I know a few of my friends that are moms that belong to local groups that trade baby items.
The possibilities are endless. Get creative and get involved with your community for many more ideas!
How do you save money locally?
I’ve found that local “mom and pop” type thrift stores tend to have lower prices than goodwill and such. Goodwill usually has jeans for 5-6 dollars a piece and shirts for 3-4 a piece where as some of my local thrift stores have tops for 1-2 and jeans for 3-4, so overtime the price difference can cause savings.
What great ideas! I definitely love doing yard sales, it is totally great for de-hoarding.. which I do pretty much need to do frequently!
I actually found some groups on Facebook that are for my county and they are always giving stuff away. One is for free items and another is for selling. I have given away great items and found some other great items to keep. Another thing I love is bartering. I have bartered all the way up to a new printer and I started with a book, lol. Not a huge success but fun none the less.
I love to use Craigslist to buy and sell items. I’ve had good luck so far and usually get a great deal.
I love browsing at garage sales. Sometimes you can find great collectibles at a reasonable price.
I can’t stand garage sales but Craigslist has been great for both buying and selling
I love the garage sale ideas. I missed going last year but have been an avid garage sale person and loved it and found many brand new toys, clothing, etc.
Great tips, I always try to have a yard sale in the spring, helps with a little bit more money to put away!
I’ve used Craigslist a lot – you can get great deals on furniture when people move (And I’ve had to sacrified furniture myself on my many cross country moves)
I always try to buy locally. i live in a small town and where everyone knows everyone and is just builds up trust in our local businesses.
Don’t forget to not only go to garage sales but to have one every year or two to get rid of things and price low for those in need
Bartering = awesome.
I “save” money by selling things I don’t need on Craigslist. I’ve been surprisingly successful; people email me to buy my stuff mere minutes after I’ve posted them! Most of them are dealers asking for a lower price, but the money is still reasonable. Er, I don’t buy from Craigslist though. Way way too many scammers lol. If I want to save money, I don’t buy stuff and go without -.-
I shop at thrift stores a lot. Paper classified are good because people who don’t use the internet still have stuff to sell/give away.
I’ve had a lot of luck finding good, used appliances locally.
I use Craigslist and a classified page on Facebook for my area, find quite alot of great days there
Craiglist.newspaper helps a lot when you are on a budget.
These tips are very helpful and informative. Thanks for sharing!
