Don’t Let Motion Sickness Ruin Summer Fun

Motion sickness is something I have dealt with my whole life. The severity of my motion sickness fluctuated throughout my childhood. Now that I am an adult, it’s never been worse. Certain activities that many find fun or just normal, I dread.

Things that make me sick include, riding in the car as a passenger, being on the boat while it’s anchored, some movies, scrolling through my phone too fast, and just living. Okay, the last one was an exaggeration, but you get my point. The car is the biggest issue for me. If I am not the driver, I am pretty much guaranteed to turn green.

The latest example of this was the day we were going to the Chicago Auto Show. For some strange reason, I had Mike drive us. I made the mistake of checking my phone on the way there. If I read or look down at anything in the car, I am a goner. I was so sick by the time we arrived that I didn’t last that long. We even had to cancel most of the day because I was ready to toss my cookies at any moment.

Box of Dramamine Motion Sickness Relief.

Over the years, I have tried many things to help with motion sickness. Dramamine was always a guaranteed fix, but it’s also good for putting you right to sleep. Sometimes that’s okay, like on a plane, but there are many times where I would like relief from motion sickness without the drowsiness.

Thankfully, Dramamine has a new product out that’s effective without the drowsy side effects. It contains ginger, which is well known for its soothing properties. But, how do you know how much to take? You surely aren’t just going to gnaw on a ginger root. Dramamine figured out the exact dosage for the ultimate results and packaged it. Thank you, Dramamine.

New Dramamine Non Drowsy with Ginger.

I took two Dramamine® Non-Drowsy Naturals and let Mike drive to an event we attended this week. I was shocked that I did not feel sick once we arrived. I felt great and enjoyed the show without any nagging side affects. I cannot wait to try them out on the boat!

Other Ways to Ease Motion Sickness

  • Ride shotgun – If you cannot drive the vehicle yourself, sit in the front seat and stare straight ahead.
  • Eyes up – Don’t try to read or look at your phone while in a moving vessel. Once again, stare straight ahead.
  • No perfume – Strong scents can intensify nausea. If you know you are going to be cooped up in something that moves, keep the body sprays to a minimum. Try some peppermint oil instead.
  • Be careful with 3D movies – Yes, this is a super bummer, but I know they can make me very sick. Also, movies that film from the perspective of someone filming. Like a person running with a video camera, oh my gosh, vomit city. Sometimes I don’t realize it’s affecting me until after the movie. Then it’s hours of recovery to deal with.

Give it a try, so you can take that road trip you’ve been avoiding. I know I am looking forward to floating around in Lake Michigan without feeling like I might feed the fish!
