Homemade Java Chip Frappuccino Recipe

Java Chip Frappuccino Recipe with Espresso Chips

The Starbucks Java Chip Frappuccino is high on my list of coffee drinks to order. I love the texture the java chips add to the blended coffee drink.

Many of the copycat Java Chip Frappuccino recipes use chocolate chips. That works fine, but I discovered that espresso chips exist! They sound just perfect to use in a java chip drink.

Java Chip Frappuccino at Home Ingredients

(Exact measurements are in the recipe card below)

Drink

  • Strong coffee
  • Chocolate syrup
  • Espresso chocolate chips
  • Ice

Topping

  • Heavy whipping cream
  • Powdered sugar
  • Chocolate syrup

Copycat Java Chip Directions

Make strong coffee (affiliate link) and allow it to cool or chill in the refrigerator for a bit.

Ice, coffee, and chips in a blender.

To make the whipped topping, add heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar to a mixing bowl.

Beat with an electric mixer for 5-6 minutes or until stiff peaks form.

Place whipped topping into a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Set aside.

Add ice, coffee, espresso chips, and chocolate syrup to a blender.

Pouring syrup into a blender on top of ice and chips.

Blend for about 30 seconds or until thick.

Do I have to make whipped cream?

You do not have to whip your own topping for this. You can use a can of Reddi-wip or any whipped topping you prefer. Of course, the topping is completely optional.

Do I have to use espresso chips?

You can use chocolate chips to make a java chip frappuccino. Espresso chips provide a deeper coffee flavor if that’s what you’re seeking.

What do espresso chips taste like?

Espresso chips taste like dark chocolate and coffee. The chips are a little softer than regular semi-sweet chips when you eat a few from the bag. People who love coffee will most likely enjoy espresso chips.

Java Chip Frappuccino

Make a java chip frappuccino from home with this easy recipe.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
  • 2 tablespoons espresso chocolate chips
  • 2 cups double-strength coffee
  • 3-4 cups ice

Topping

  • chocolate syrup
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Add heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar in a mixing bowl and beat with an electric mixer for 5-6 minutes or until stiff. Place whipped topping into a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Set aside. 
  2. Add ice, coffee, chocolate chips, and chocolate syrup into a blender. Blend until thick, about 30 seconds. 
  3. Pour into glasses and top with whipped topping and chocolate syrup. Serve immediately. 
  4. Fills 2, 12 oz glasses.
