The Power of a Book

I often forget the power of a book and the ultimate relaxing that reading provides.

People recharge differently, but for me, escaping into a great book is just what I need to unwind.

However, it has to be the right book. Anything too dull can have the opposite effect and even feel like a chore.

It’s easy to forget how much I love to read after struggling to connect with book after book.

A book opening that looks like a magical background.

The Power of a Book – Reigniting my Love of Reading

I am an extreme introvert. I finally know myself to realize that to be true and to be at peace with it.

I feel like I grew up in some sort of bubble that made me feel like a weirdo for the way I behaved.

Now I know that it’s not all that strange to prefer curling up with a book over going out to, well, anywhere.

Unseen Messages by Pepper Winters – Just when I’d lost the urge to read, my mother-in-law recommended this book.

She has a steady track record for suggesting great reads, so I immediately looked it up on Amazon. It was free with my Kindle Unlimited subscription; even better.

From the first few pages, I was hooked. It’s been ages since a book grabs me right away.

Lately, it’s been a struggle to finish anything I’ve tried to read. I knew almost immediately that I’d not only enjoy the book but find a new author to follow.

Sometimes I can tell by the way they write that I will love the story no matter how it unfolds.

This post is not meant to be a book review, more of a renewed awakening of my favorite hobby.

Reading is a way for my introverted self to truly recharge. While many people find vacations relaxing, the act of getting me somewhere causes too much anxiety for me to ever fully relax.

Transport me to another place via words and I am satisfied.

From what I can tell the rest of Pepper Winters’ work is rather dark and twisty but I will give the books a try.

As I said, I love her writing style, and I appreciate the change. For a while, it felt like I kept reading the same story over and over again.

I gave up on reading for too long and turned to movies and shows. Neither of which settle my restless brain as well as a good book can.

The best of books can stir every emotion out of you regardless of the genre.

I’m pretty sure Unseen Messages is in the romance category, but I felt every feeling throughout this story.

I say all the time that a good book feels like falling in love and that definitely applies here.

“No one can truly soothe your fears, your tears, your Rolodex of emotions. No one can truly make it right, fix the wrong, or make your dreams come true. Only you. Only”
― Pepper Winters, Unseen Messages

I feel like this is a cycle for me. I get into a rut of subpar books and lose interest.

It takes a real soul shaker to remind me how much I love to read.

After giving myself permission to fully indulge in reading this book, I felt like a new person the next day.

Like a bright and shiny fully charged smartphone with all apps firing on all cylinders. Okay, horrid analogy, but you get the point.

It was a much-needed reminder of the power of a good book.

2023 update: I’m shocked that Pepper Winters isn’t all over spicy booktok?! After now reading several books by Pepper Winters, I can confirm that MOST of them are dark romances. Definitely check the trigger warnings and get ready for some dark and twisty stuff.

I created a gift guide for book lovers if you want some fun bookish gift ideas!

If you have any book suggestions, please let me know.

I am open to many genres as long as the book is well written with good character connections.

Like you I am an introvert and I made peace with that a very long time ago. I have always been a reader. For me a good book takes me to distant places, the world disappears. I read a wide variety of books, about the only thing I wont read is soppy romance which I find rather a bor.

Get reading! :)
