Fun Party Dessert Using Donut Holes
Donut holes always make me think of childhood. I remember waking up after sleepovers to boxes of Munchkins that my Gram would buy for all of us kids.
Now, I often think of ways donut holes can be used to make other fun treats. You can’t help but think of them when creating desserts on a stick.
After making brownie skewers and s’mores kabobs, these donut holes on a stick were a must. They just look like happiness, birthday parties, and sleepover celebrations to me!

Directions
Prep the Skewers
If your wooden skewers are too long, cut them to the size you like. Use diagonal cutters to trim them evenly. This will make them easier to handle and serve.
Build the Skewers
Start by sliding a donut hole onto the skewer. Add a strawberry next. Keep repeating this pattern: donut, strawberry, donut. Stop after the third donut hole. Lay the skewer down and make more until you have the number you need.
Melt the Fudge
Put the hot fudge in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat it for 20 seconds. Stir until smooth. If it’s not fully melted, microwave for a few more seconds.
Drizzle the Fudge
Pour the melted fudge into a resealable sandwich bag. Snip a small corner off the bag. Squeeze the fudge over each skewer in a zigzag pattern. Go slow to keep it neat.
Add Sprinkles
Sprinkle rainbow sprinkles over the drizzled fudge while it’s still wet. This sticks them in place.
Cool and Serve
Let the skewers sit until the fudge sets and hardens. They’re ready to serve once the fudge is firm.

Recipe Substitutions and Variations
Skewer Swaps
- Use lollipop sticks for shorter, kid-friendly skewers.
- Trim wooden skewers with scissors if they’re too long.
Donut Hole Decisions
- Try chocolate, glazed, or other flavors of donut holes for variety.
- Use mini muffins if donut holes aren’t available.
Strawberries Swap
- Replace strawberries with banana slices, jumbo blueberries, or raspberries.
- Use dried fruit like apricots for a different texture.
Chocolate Alternatives
- Drizzle melted milk chocolate, white chocolate, or caramel instead of hot fudge. Just know that we did find the Smucker’s hot fudge to work really well. It was a nice consistency and didn’t crack.
- Serve with a fruit dip instead of doing the drizzle.
Sprinkle Ideas
- Use chocolate chips, crushed nuts, or coconut flakes instead of rainbow sprinkles.
- Try seasonal sprinkles for special occasions.
Customize the Layers
- Add marshmallows, brownie bites, or other skewerable foods between layers for extra flavor.
- Alternate fruit and donut holes any way you like.
Tools you’ll need
Here are some kitchen tools you’ll need for this recipe.
Storage
To store donut hole skewers, place them in an airtight container. Use wax paper between layers to prevent sticking. Keep them in the fridge for up to two days. It’s best if you drizzle the fudge and add sprinkles right before serving.

- Cool Fudge: Let fudge set completely before serving.
Recipe Notes & FAQ
Can I use other fruits besides strawberries?
Yes, you can use other fruits like grapes or banana slices. Make sure the fruit is firm and not overly juicy so it stays on the skewer.
What size donut holes work best?
Standard donut holes are ideal. Avoid oversized ones as they may be harder to handle on the skewer.
How do I keep the hot fudge from sliding off?
Make sure the fruit and donut holes are dry before drizzling the hot fudge. Let the skewers sit flat until the fudge cools.
